2018 Releases I’m dying to read

If you know me and my reading habits, you’ll know I rarely get excited/track new releases. In fact, most of the books I read are 5/10 years old (if not a few centuries… I love me some Chaucer)!

However, there are a few books in 2018 that I’m super excited to get to and wanted to share with you.

I have one little disclaimer to get out of the way now, I’m pretty sure anyone who has even the slightest interest in bookish releases will already know all about these gems, but heck, I’m going to talk about them anyway for the other Abbys out there!

I’m so excited for this one so I had to mention it first. If you’ve been with me since 2016, you’ll know that I read both Illuminae and Gemina at the very end of the year and they made my entire years reading worthwhile. In fact, both of them made it into my Top 10 for the year!

I’m conflicted about reading this third installment. On one hand, I’m dying to dive back into the world of the Illuminae Files (and that’s saying something as I don’t read/like a lot of sci-fi). On the other hand, I also don’t want it to be over… I need at least one companion novel in my future!

This is sort of the opposite of the last book. I finished King’s Cage (the 3rd book in the series) in a state of utter confusion as I’d assumed it was a trilogy, and yet it didn’t wrap up at all.

So, when I found out about War Storm I was a mixture of happy that I had more to experience and annoyed that I was going to have to wait for it to come out.

This is another series that I really didn’t think I’d enjoy, I’m not into fantasy either (“what genres do you like”? they cried) but something about it has me hooked and so, here I am, eagerly awaiting the latest installment.

If you’d asked me in January 2017 if I’d ever be anticipating a Wayward Children novel, I’d have laughed you out of the room. But, as my Down Among The Sticks and Bones review explains, I was pleasantly surprised by the second book in the series after my hatred of the first novel, and so I think I’m going to continue – for now.

I’m less excited about this one than I am about the other books on this list, it’s more a sort of morbid curiosity that’s driving me to read it. But I’m thinking positively!

Have I raved about When Dimple Met Rishi enough yet? No? Well, let’s do it again! I absolutely loved this book (hence it’s place in my 2017 Favourites) and since I have to wait until 2019 for the companion, I’m glad that From Twinkle, with Love will be here to pass the time.

Contemporary romance is one of my favourite genres and Sandhya Menon has the potential to become one of my favourite authors, it all hinges on this next book… no pressure.

2 January 2018

Is it a little out of place on this list? Yes.

But am I excited to read it? Heck, yes!

I’ve been bingeing The Financial Diet on YouTube when I really started to think about more consciously about my money, so you can imagine my excitement when I heard they were releasing a book!

I love the way Chelsea and her team manage to make finances mildly fun and seem really manageable, even if you do have minus figures in your chequing account!

And that’s it! You may notice that there aren’t a lot of books I’m excited about this year by most book blogging standards, but I promise this is the most books I’ve ever anticipated in my whole life!
You may also notice that they’re almost all sequels or authors I’ve read from before as I don’t really spend a lot of time examining what debut authors are bringing out or reading arcs, but if you have any you’re excited about, let me know in the comments below. See you down there!

  1. I love Seanan McGuire’s writing, so I’m hoping to pick up Beneath the Sugared Sky this year too 🙂 I’m also really looking forward to Daughter of the Siren Queen by Tricia Levenseller and also A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas!
