I’m sticking with tradition for today’s post and am answering the ‘Get To Know Me Tag’ (I saw it on Sarah Nourse’s channel over on YouTube, but I’m not sure who originally created it). Last year I uploaded a 12 Facts About Me post during Blogmas and I wanted to stick with the tradition, it’s a nice way to let you guys into the inner circle!
There are a lot of questions in this tag, so let’s just jump into it!
Are you named after anyone?
When I was born, my Dad was trusted to pick the name. He claims he looked through the whole book, but I find it suspicious that Abby (my nickname) was the first entry and Abigail (my full name) was the second in the book he used – you’re not fooling anyone, Dad.
When was the last time you cried?
I’m trying to think, I don’t really cry all that much, there’s a running joke in my family that I’m actually made of stone. However, I do have a weakness for Disney movies, they always get me choked up. I watched Lady and the Tramp about a month ago and got a lump in my throat, that’s probably as good as it’s going to get from me – seriously, stone.
Do you have kids?
Nope, no kids. However, with working in a daycare I get a little bit of cuteness every week, and my kitten is a pretty good substitute at the moment outside of work, so I’m happy!
If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself?
Okay, I know this is not the answer I’m supposed to give, but no way, and I’ll explain why. Do any of my fellow Brits remember the Tweenies? There were Bella and Milo and Jake and Fizz. I always loved Fizz and hated Bella, but as I’ve gotten older I realised that I am literally Bella… I am the controlling, bossy, sarcastic eldest child. My sister, on the other hand, is Fizz and we get on like a house on fire.
I just think I have one of those personality types that attracts it’s opposite, I know you’re meant to think that you’d like yourself if you weren’t you, but I’m afraid that’s just not me. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t be mean to me, I just don’t think we’d gel well – does that make sense?
Do you use sarcasm?
Will you ever bungee jump?
Funny story, I already have, and I would never do it again.
It felt like a rite of passage – you go to New Zealand, you go to Queenstown, you do a Bungee. I did the original AJ Hackett Bungee off the Kawarau Bridge and let out the most bloodcurdling scream in the history of bloodcurdling screams. I’m glad I can say I’ve done it, but it’s definitely not something I ever want to do again.
What’s your favourite cereal?
I don’t do breakfast, so I don’t really eat cereal, but the only one I have in my house is Curiously Cinnamon – if I’m ever eating cereal, I’m eating that.
What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Teeth. I think since I have problematic teeth, my eyes are just drawn to them. I know that’s probably a weird thing to say. It isn’t even the colour that I worry about but differences in colour (suggesting false teeth or veneers) and things like shape and distance and all the other things wrong with my own mouth, I look for in other people.
What is your eye colour?
Depends on what light I’m standing in, sometimes they’re grey and sometimes they look bluer… so, a bluey-grey?
Scary movie or happy ending?
Happy ending always, I hate horror movies. I get absolutely no pleasure in watching something with jump scares and then not sleeping for a week. At first, I was ashamed of this, but I’ve learned to embrace my cowardice.
Well, I love Pink Grapefruit (as you’ll know if you’ve seen any of my Body Shop Hauls), but more generally, nothing beats the smell of burning turf – could I be any more Irish?
Summer or winter?
Winter. Definitely, winter. I suppose it’s probably because summer isn’t really anything special here. Summer in Spain or Italy or somewhere is a different story, that would actually be a competition, but Irish summer vs Irish winter, no contest.
Computer or TV?
Fun fact, I don’t actually own a TV so I get all my entertainment from my laptop through Netflix, Amazon Video or YouTube and I don’t feel deprived at all.
What’s the furthest you have ever been from home?
I’ve been literally as far from home as I can get. The farthest city on the planet from Belfast is Christchurch, and I’ve been there… I couldn’t have gone farther if I tried.
Do you have any special talents?
‘Special’ no, but I have been praised/mocked for my slightly obsessive organisational skills, which I take as a compliment.
Where were you born?
Right here in ol’ Northern Ireland, in my hometown. In fact, I was one of the last babies who can say that as our local hospital closed its maternity wing shortly after I was born and so now everyone has to venture out into a nearby town instead.
What are your hobbies?
Well, if you’ve actually read my blog you’ll already know all about the reading, bullet journaling and decluttering, so I’ll try to come up with something better than that for you… I sing, and I act, and I love to watch movies (even though I have weird taste). I’m a pretty hobby driven person if truth be told so I feel like I dabble in a lot of things, that’s probably an area I could drastically simplify!
Do you have any pets?
My family has a cat, Mittens, who could not be less interested in us even if we were covered head to toe in cat treats. My adoptive cat, Kimble Von Clawstraten (loosely based in Kimble Hookstraten from Designated Survivor), who is actually a neighbour’s cat that we co-parent, is much more affectionate… we cuddle daily.
What’s your favourite film?
See, I’m having a bit of a crisis at the moment guys. If you put a gun to my head, I’d say Aliens as it was my favourite film for a solid 4/5 years. However, I haven’t seen it in a while and so I’m not sure that I can keep using it, I’m not even sure if I want to.
I don’t’ think I’d call it my favourite film, but I have watched Age of Adaline on Netflix like about 20 times (no exaggeration) so there must be something about it that appeals to me.
Do you have any siblings?
Yep, one sister and one brother, both younger than me and both facing the struggles of leaving school and entering the big bad world.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I’d like to think I’m already grown, but when I graduate I plan to go on to be a teacher. Most likely a secondary school teacher, but at the moment I’m pretty flexible with the age.
So there you have it, I really hope you guys enjoyed learning a little bit more about me, I’d love to hear some of your answers in the comments below, or for you to do this tag on your own blog and let me know about it. Otherwise, I’ll see you in a couple of days!
