Guys, I embarrassed to even write this post. This is supposed to be my August wrap up, but since I only read one book this entire month, there isn’t a whole lot to ‘wrap up’.
However, I do have a September TBR in the works, so I’ll throw that in here to make this post worthy of publication!
White Teeth by Zadie Smith
(In my defence, the one book I did read is an absolute beast!)
+ Lots of interesting use of symbolism and metaphor – in other words, crack for any English student.
+ Really funny in places, Zadie Smith has a really lovely satirical humor that I really enjoyed
+ I felt so accomplished when I finished it (even though it took me an entire month)
– The language was unnecessarily foul in my eyes
– Due to the length and complexity of the story, the plot got a bit lost in places, I had to read a summary after I finished it to remind myself of those first few chapters.
Now, on to the real matter at hand, my September TBR.
I’m going to be pretty gentle with myself since I only really have 2 weeks of uni-free reading left (sigh).
This was raved about over on YouTube by BooksandLaLa and, although I often hate books she loves, I’m casually optimistic that this one’s going to be a winner for me – I’ll let you know how it goes.
I’ve had this bad boy on my TBR for months now – I think I originally was inspired to read it on sunbeamsjess recommendation, but I could be wrong about that one.
Either way, I think it sounds like an interesting premise (especially for someone who’s worryingly interested in the Cold War, like myself).
This is an anthology that comes out this month… and I have an un-read ARC on my Kindle. Well, okay I’ll be honest, I have 8 unread ARC’s on my Kindle, but this is the only one I have a snowball’s chance of reading before its release date (all the others are seriously overdue!) It also works out nicely because I’m betting this won’t take me long to fly through.
And there we have it, I know this was a painfully short post – I’m almost ashamed to upload it at all. But hey, I finished White Teeth and I’m proud of it, so I want the world to know!
What books are you guys excited to get to this month, especially new releases (September seems to be a great month for releases)… let me know in the comments below!
