Dear August

Yes, I know we’re now a third of the way through the month – but better late than never… right?

Today I’m back with another monthly goals update. This one’s probably going to be a bit spotty as I was away in Tanzania for two weeks in July and just generally had a very odd calendar that didn’t leave a lot of space for consistency. So please just bear with me a wee bit!

With all that out of the way, let’s jump right in!

Routines have absolutely fallen into the depths of my brain this past month. I think, realistically, summer is just a difficult time to form actual functional routines as I’m travelling and working and just generally doing things that wouldn’t be a factor during term time.

However, with that all being said, I would really like to try and get into some good habits before I head back to uni and the never-ending workload closes in.

Ha… ha… ha. Okay, so once again I’m ashamed to report that this has been going horribly.

However, I sat down last week and made an extensive spreadsheet which (hopefully) should have me overdraft free by the end of September and with over £1000 of saving – not bad for just over a month… if I can do it.

Also when it comes to finances, I’m working on something really exciting that’ll be coming at you nearer the end of the month so stay tuned for that!

Sponsor A Child

I finally, after all my months of talk, sponsored a child! I know originally I said I was probably going to do it through Adopt A Child, but this month I was out in Tanzania with an amazing charity called Kids 4 School.

The difference between sponsoring a child through Kids 4 School and many of the larger charities is that they guarantee 100% of your sponsor money will be used in Tanzania to provide food, uniforms and other necessities to the child, family and wider community you sponsor. Not only is this better for the child, but it’s also cheaper for you… Kids 4 School asks for only £39 a year per child (that’s just over £3 a month) and I can safely say, from first-hand experience, that it makes a world of difference to the children involved.

Okay, sales pitch over, you can check out their website if you want to know more.

This is another area of neglect this month. I haven’t been eating badly per say, but I haven’t been exercising either – I really need to get my act together on that front this month.

I feel like I’m gradually making progress here, I’m slowly starting to feel closer and closer to God and I definitely want to keep making that progress.

This past week I’ve been feeling very inspired and have had loads of thoughts about ways to improve fellowship in my own church – so I’m super excited to get stuck in to that.

I’m going to have to be a bit cagey about this one, at least for a little while, but productivity has been at the forefront of my mind since I got back from my holidays as I have a few very exciting projects in the works… but more on that nearer the end of the month.

However, the one thing I can tell you is that I’ve been using OmniFocus to keep me on task and it is WONDERFUL! I think I’m going to have to do a whole other post on it in the not too distant future.

Reading Goals

Unfortunately, I have some sad news in this area… I’ve had to lower my Goodreads Challenge. Realistically, once I go back to uni, I won’t have time to be doing nearly as much reading for pleasure, and there are a few hefty books that I really want to get to before going into reading hibernation.

Therefore, I have lowered my Goodreads Challenge from 100 books to 70.

I definitely think I’ll be able to pass this goal (hopefully by a lot) but I just don’t want to feel under pressure to read anymore – it’s started to suck all the fun out of it, and that isn’t my intention… drastic measures had to be taken.

Overall, I feel like July was an okay month for me. Simplifying my goals last month was definitely a good decision and it’s really helped me to focus my mind and energy on the things I really want to get done. I hope you guys have had a productive month, let me know in the comments what you’re most proud of achieving or what you’re main goal is for the month of August, I’ll see you down there!
