Good morning everyone, and happy Easter Sunday! Today, we’re going to try something a little bit more experimental. Today, I have a challenge for you all (*dramatic music plays in background*).
My hope is that this challenge will give you the kick up the bum you need to get cracking on all your Spring Cleaning and regain control of your space.
The aim of the challenge is as follows:
- To select a container of your choice (personally, I chose a medium sized basket that usually lives under my bed, but there’s no reason why you couldn’t choose a make-up bag or a bin liner – you do whatever feels realistic to you).
- Walk around your house (tidying as you go if necessary) and fill your basket with things you no longer need. (Think about all those little things that you walk past every day but never really see. Or, those things that you’ve made a dozen mental notes to bin, but never got around to.)
- Once the container is full, divide it into RUBBISH, DONATE, GIVEAWAY and SELL. If you don’t have time to process it today, leave it somewhere that you won’t forget about it, and schedule some time later in the week to sort it out.
By the end of the challenge, you should have a container’s worth of stuff leaving your house and simplifying your life. It’s more than possible that once you get going, you’ll actually realise that you have way more stuff to get rid of (I know I did, I ended up with a heaving bin liner!)
By the end, I had a conglomeration of random bits gathered including; 2 hair claws, 2 nail polises, 5 lipsticks, an old concealer, 2 pairs of ballet flats, 3 pairs of heels, a dress, 4 tops, an old pair of jeans (that I ripped and never mended), a hoodie I destroyed in the wash and a few old tech boxes that I’ve clung on to for some reason.
Even though it isn’t a huge amount of stuff, you wouldn’t believe the difference it’s made in my house. It’s actually inspired me to Kon-Mari this house (I haven’t done it since I moved in here. Who knows, I might even document it on the blog!)
I really hope you guys try this out, if you do, let me know in the comments of this post or share your experience with me on social media.
Good luck with the spring cleaning, and I’ll see you in a couple of days!
