Where on earth did February go?! I know it’s a short month, but it feels like yesterday that I went back to uni after Christmas break, and now it’s almost March.I feel like I owe you guys an apology for the lack of book reviews this month. I feel like I owe you guys an apology for the lack of book reviews this month. Allow me to explain. I’ve been reading a lot of books for uni this past month and I really don’t want to review those, to avoid plagiarising myself in my essays. If you do want to hear my thoughts on these books, I’ll do a post at the end of the semester (after all my assignments have been submitted)… let me know if you’d be interested!
But anywho, that’s not what we’re doing today. Today it’s time for my February wrap up, so let’s jump into some book stats…
Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
+ A lovely mix of characters.
+ Some really beautiful writing with gorgeous imagery.
+ A really interesting topic, something I haven’t read about before.
– At the beginning, I found it difficult to follow which character was which, but my brain sorted itself out eventually.
– There were points when I just had to take a break, I was dying to be done with it.
We Come Apart by Sarah Crossan and Brian Conaghan
+ Written in verse which was really cool.
+ Super quick read, I got through it in less than a day.
– Really horrible message, I don’t think it was a suitable message for a young adult audience.
– Unaccepting presentation of Nicu’s Romania culture, particularly relating to arranged marriage.
– The characters had too many problems both in their lives and with their characters – made them feel quite angsty.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
+ Did make me audibly gasp on the bus at the beginning of Part 2.
+ The second half of this book was a lot more enjoyable than the first.
– A cast of really detestable characters.
– Unnecessarily sexualised in a lot of places.
– The writing often left me wanting to throw the book across the room – just not my thing.
+ Aesthetically gorgeous.
+ 3 poems that I really really loved.
+ A really empowering read, great if you’re going through a breakup.
+ Some really simple and beautiful imagery.
– I expected to love more pieces in a collection of this size.
War of the Worlds by H G Wells
+ Totally different and infinitely better than the movie
+ Quite well written, very descriptive
+ A really quick read
– Literally the same book as Day of the Triffids
– Such an anticlimactic ending
So there we go, apart from going completely off TBR, it wasn’t a bad reading month. Hopefully I’ll be able to be a little bit better about it next month!
How did your month go? What was your favourite read?
I have been on the waiting list for Milk & Honey since December, but it says it’s being shipped, so it should be at the library any day now….Fingers crossed

Thank you! Between today and tomorrow I know I will, I have a little more than half of the book left.
