As I’m sure you know by now, I’m a big audiobook lover, but so many people have told me that they just don’t see the point in listening to an audiobook, when you could just as easily pick it up and read it normally. For me, it’s all about efficiency of time.
Today’s post is a list of 20 times when I can’t read a physical book, but audiobooks work beautifully. By reading these times, I essentially double my reading time throughout the week, meaning I get through more books and you get more reviews… you’re welcome.
- On your drive to work
- On a plane ride
- On a train ride
- When you’re out walking
- On your lunchbreak
- While you tidy
- While you garden
- While you shower
- While you bathe
- While you do your hair and make up
- While you get dressed
- While you shop
- While you draw
- While you plan
- While you lay in bed, just before sleep
- Over your first cup of tea/coffee in the morning
- While you workout
- While you go for a run/jog
- When you’re waiting for a bus
- When you’re waiting for a friend
- When your taxi hasn’t arrived yet
- When you’re queueing for your lunch
- When you’re queueing for an event
- During advert breaks
- When you’re organising
- While you follow along with the physical copy
- While you practice some deep breathing exercises
- While you do laundry
- While you’re running errands
- While you sit comatosed on your sofa because the book is just that good! (this only happens with the best of audiobooks)
So there you go, 30 ways you can double your reading time with a good audiobook. When/Where do you read audiobooks? Are there any good places I’ve missed?
I love this list!! Such great ideas. It’s also really handy that you can download audiobooks, even from the library, on to your phone, so really can listen in those in-between moments when you’re waiting or have a break of simply doing nothing else.

Exactly! Having them on my phone has literally doubled the amount I can read during the week.

As a corollary of #15, while you’re sharing a hotel room with someone who wants the lights out early so you can’t read visually. I speak from personal experience 😉

Oh, that’s a good one, I’ve never had any personal experience of that one!

Audio-books are great! I like to just put them on and listen to them while I’m doing other things.

They’re the perfect way to increase your reading time aren’t they?

I haven’t tried … But I feel I can either focus on hearing the audio or doing something else.. so no Audiobooks for me!

That’s what I thought, but you’d be amazed how little brainpower something like hoovering takes up!

I can give it a try, then!

I’ve tried audiobooks and they don’t work for me at all.

That’s disappointing – they’re a great way of increasing the number of books I can get through!

Well now, all my excuses to not try an audiobook is gone-nervous laughter. I’m just kidding, I would definitely try an audiobook, they seem useful, and I may just want to read a book while I run, so who knows?

That’s another great one. You can tell I don’t exercise and so have no first hand experience of that one – you’ll have to let me know how it goes!

Definitely, I’ll be sure to give you some feedback on that.
